History
The cottages were originally built in 1894 probably for farm workers. There were enclosures underneath for sheltering livestock or for storage. These are now cozy apartments. The cottages are named after the “Venerable St Bede” a priest who was born in 672 AD in Northumbria. He was an avid scholar and historian and is credited with writing the first spiritual history of the English people in which the AD system of dating is used. He died on Ascension day at the age of 62 and his feast day is still celebrated by the Roman church on the 25 of May.
